If you are like most men, chances are you carry your wallet in the same side of your pants, day after day. It seems like no coincidence that the men who come in for appointments complaining of lower back pain, also carry their wallets in their back pocket.
The pain caused by your wallet alone is referred to as “hip-pocket syndrome” or “wallet-neuropathy”. The pressing of the nerves by the wallet can lead to unnecessary pressure on the sciatic nerve. Symptoms of extreme sciatic pain will feel like numbness in the lower legs, ankle or foot and pain in the lower back.
If you are experiencing these type of symptoms, find a chiropractor that can advise you on a few exercises to alleviate your excruciating pain. In the mean time, try switching to a money clip or perhaps a smaller wallet that you take out of you back pocket every time you sit down.
