How to Reduce Sports Injuries With Stretching

At Towne Lake Family Chiropractic, we see more and more patients come in with sports ailments due to improper stretching. While we are happy to treat these ailments, we believe that proper preventative care could have eliminated some of the ailments.

Stretching the body before a sporting event is very crucial. Pre-game stretches should be done while in motion (dynamic) and mimic the sport being played. Stretching enables the joints and connective tissue to be more flexible and have a greater range of motion. By stretching beforehand, the body will be able to handle any expected twists and turns that could be detrimental to the body.

Post game stretching is equally as important. After the game you should lengthen your muscles with static stretches in a fixed position. Your stretching poses should be held for a solid minute. Yoga after sporting events is also a great way to work out the joints.
